A Week Away

We did it! Proved everyone wrong by taking our two-month-old on a plane to stay in Florida for a week… I was actually among the doubters at first–not sure if we’d want to pack up and go when at any moment the boy could get out of control and be inconsolable. But, as predicted, two months old is a lot different than two weeks, and we’ve got just enough of a handle on things that having a week away is a great thing. We agree that it felt kind of like a “half vacation”–relaxation had in short bursts when Henrik was napping or in his post-feed happy state, but that’s better than no vacation at all, especially when you’re on Hutchinson Island.

I’d also like to note that Em was wrong about something… As we drove away from the house en route to the airport, she let me know about her sense that we’d have a fight during the trip. Something about managing Henrik and me splitting time between her and the rest of the family seemed like it could herald trouble… But nothing ever boiled over, thankfully!

The closest we got to disaster was probably 30 minutes after that same conversation in the car, when we got to the airport and found out we were delayed 45 minutes–effectively throwing off any attempt we were making to time Henrik’s feeding with when we’d be on the plane… But after a long wait at the airport’s lone restaurant, some mediocre salads, and a spell of crying, the crisis was mostly averted. And off we went:
